PRE-ACCELERATOR COHORT OVERVIEW

With the help of some amazing partners, Goodie Nation is producing the Spring 2018 version of Goodie Impact Pre-Accelerator, a three-month program designed to help passionate leaders launch early-stage tech startups, open source projects, or digital marketing campaigns that save the world. This cohort’s theme is Hack Cancer + STDs, and the objective is for each team to come up with a tech product or tech-enabled solution that helps to address cancer or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). In this fast-paced, part-time program, founders will walk away with a working product, landing page, logo, revenue model, and marketing plan to begin making an impact as well as begin raising funding. Goodie Nation provides the workshops as well as volunteer developers, designers, marketers, and mentors to develop into thriving, sustainable ventures that create measurable impact.

DETAILS

We’ll help you launch one of the following:

+Tech Startup: A scalable for-profit company poised to launch nationally (or globally) over the next 3 years. Will likely require raising investment capital after the pre-accelerator is complete.
Examples tech startups include GoodrAndote, and SynsorMed.
+Open Source Software: A project whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers see fit. Open source software is usually developed as a public collaboration and made freely available.
Check out examples on GitHub here.
+Digital Marketing Campaign: online marketing effort using a combination of a website, social media, email, etc. to create awareness around a specific cancer or STD problem or for existing solutions.
Check out some awesome examples here and here.

Eligible participants:

Individuals with ideas about addressing a subcategory of cancer or STDs (for-profits), innovative non-profits, and early-stage mission-driven companies (for-profits) who want to use websites, apps, chatbots/digital assistants, artificial intelligence, virtual/augmented reality, analytics, big data, or awareness campaigns, etc. Don’t worry, we’ll bring in mentors and professionals to help you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Goodie Impact Pre-Accelerator only for those that want to launch a tech startup?

Though we prefer startups to come from the program, you can also launch open source projects and digital marketing campaigns.

How much does it cost for a founding team to participate in Goodie Impact Pre-Accelerator?

Zero. It’s completely free.

How is this possible?

Because our amazing sponsors, partners, and volunteers want to help save the world.

Do I need to know how to code?

If you’re looking to launch a tech startup or open source project, then one person on your team must be a developer. If your outcome is a digital marketing campaign, then you don’t need to know how to code.

Am I expected to start a company?

Yes, for those looking to launch startups or digital marketing campaigns.

Can I be a solo founder?

We prefer teams of 2-3 people as it increases the likelihood of success. It takes a lot to be successful, and it is extremely difficult for one person to do everything by him or her self.

My team doesn’t have an idea yet, can I still participate as a founder?

Yes. We’ll help you generate an innovative idea. We look for people with a track record of getting things done.

I have an idea, but I haven’t started working on it yet. Can I still participate?

Even better. Our process will help get it out of your head, and refine it.

Can existing projects, non-profits, or for-profit companies take part in the program?

Yes. Early-stage companies or new divisions of older companies without a working product qualify. However, the expectation is that your idea be scalable to multiple cities.

Who owns the intellectual property produced at the hackathons?

Your company does.

Does Goodie Nation take equity in my company?

No. You own it 100%. However, we are open to taking equity or participating in revenue-share agreements in exchange for additional services

Does Goodie Nation provide funding as part of the program?

Nope, but we do provide a ton of free resources. It’s about $30,000 worth of value per team.

I’m not in Atlanta. Can I start a team?

We require at least one of the founding team members to live in the Metro Atlanta area. There are some critical things that have to be done in person – especially during the week.

I can’t make it to the events on those dates. Can I still start a team?

Unfortunately, no. Attendance is required for those who will start a team.

Does the idea have to be a tech-based solution?

Yes, either software or tech-enabled like a website. The idea we help you generate will require some level of technology.

Is this a full-time program?

Nope. We’ve designed it so you have time for a job, class, etc. However, there will be a lot of work to do! Expect to put in 10-15 hours a week.
